VR Side One

About

Vicky Roden is a multidisciplinary artist who works in a variety of media including embroidery, jewellery and resin casting. She is particularly interested in the stories objects have had before they meet us and the embellishments we add to both the item and the tales around them.

Vicky grew up in Walsall and now lives in Sandwell, and the work she has made over the years has been very much a product of the places and tales I've grown up with. Having made a number of works about the local area, she has been able to seek out obscure legends and near forgotten figures and has a broad knowledge of the history and mythologies of the Black Country.

Each workshop of 'Poured Our Hearts Out' follows one of Yam From Here's themes: Home, Journeys and Community.

Vicky invites participants to bring small objects that relate to that weeks theme, and think about a story or memory that relates to this. We'll then have a group conversation over tea and cake, discussing the objects that we have brought and our feelings and related tales about that sessions theme.

We'll then collage photographs and items relating to Sandwell, finding ways to incorporate the small objects (or a representation of them if necessary) to create a 10 centimetre square design before setting them in UV curing clear resin, exploring different techniques and methods to add colour, sparkle and make a small work to be exhibited as part of Yam From Here's final exhibition!
