Join us for an author event with Abda Khan - meet the author and ask questions!

Abda Khan is a lawyer turned writer and author of novels Stained (dubbed the 'contemporary Tess of the d'Urbervilles' by Booklist in the USA), and Razia (in which she delves into the issue modern day slavery). Her debut poetry collection, Losing Battles Winning Wars, reflects her personal struggles as the daughter of immigrants from an ethnic minority community. Her third novel, That Which May Destroy You, published in 2025, is a gripping courtroom thriller which explores 'gaslighting' as a form of emotional abuse.

She runs creative writing courses, has contributed to anthologies, and produces creative community projects, which have included Sidelines to Centre Stage (sharing the stories of marginalised women), Tappay Tales (creating new work by taking inspiration from old Punjabi folk songs), and Aurat Kahani (an oral history project which featured women's stories about South Asian migration). She is currently mentoring unpublished South Asian female writers as part of her Arts Council England funded 'See-SAWW' project.

She writes commissioned pieces in collaboration with others, these have included a script written as part of Tribe Arts' live show delving into the complete joined up story of Partition (nominated for an Asian Media Award) and a spoken word script written and narrated for the short film Threaded Together directed by Sima Gonsai (nominated for a Royal Television Society Midlands Award).
Abda is a Desi Blitz Arts Ambassador, a Lloyds Bank Women of the Future Ambassador, and she won British Muslim Woman of the Year in 2019.
