About
Get creative and explore Sandwell's industrial heritage! Join us for a hands-on, family-friendly workshop inspired by the iconic handkerchief vases produced by the Chance Brothers Glassworks. Discover the story behind one of Smethwick's most famous manufacturers and create your own unique paper vase to take home.
What you'll do:
- Learn about the Chance Brothers archive, held by Sandwell Archives, and Chance's famous handkerchief vases.
- Design and decorate your own vase using paint markers, collage materials and washi tapes.
- Shape your creation into a functional sculptural vase using wire techniques inspired by the original glass designs.
- Take home a handmade piece inspired by the creative legacy of Chance Brothers.
Suitable for all abilities. Whether you're an experienced crafter or a complete beginner, this workshop is designed to be accessible, welcoming and fun. The focus is on creativity, curiosity and exploring local history through art.
Who can attend?
Families, adults, young people and anyone interested in local history, heritage or crafts. Drop-ins welcome.
Workshop facilitated by Amrit Kaur J., a Smethwick-based creative workshop leader with over ten years' experience delivering arts and crafts activities for communities across the Black Country.
