History Lovers’ Season – 14-31 July.

enjoy a season of activities to allow you to explore this fantastic medieval building, once the home of the Lords of the Manor of West Bromwich, and its 750 years of stories and learn more about our recent conservation work on site.

Open Day: Tuesday 14 July, 11am-2.30pm. Join us for the first open day after restoration works are finished. Staff are here to answer your questions about the history of the building and the recent completed works. Tea room open. Free entry, no need to book.

Guided Tour: Friday 17 July, 6.30pm. Explore the stories of our ancient building with a guided tour. Tea room open from 6pm. Suitable for ages 16+, tickets are free but places must be booked via Ticketsource.

House Re-opening Launch: Sunday 19 July, 11am-3pm. Find out about our restoration works with facts and photographs. Hear introductory talks throughout the day. Younger visitors can help Professor Black solve the mystery of the pesky Beam Burrowers before they eat through our ancient wooden beams! All ages welcome. Professor Black here 11.30am-2.30pm. Free entry, no booking required.

Tour and Talk with Dr. Mike Hodder: Tuesday 21 July, 6pm start. Join former borough archaeologist Dr. Mike Hodder as he dives into the history of Bromwich Hall and medieval West Bromwich, then explore! Suitable for ages 16+, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Book tickets via Ticketsource. Tickets cost £3.50 which includes a hot drink. 

 History Helpers: Wednesday 23 July, 11am-3pm. Make a clay tile inspired by our witch marks and chapel floor. Draw cave paintings and have a go at being a builder. Follow two trails and learn about the restoration works and pesky pests! Suitable for all ages. Drop in, no need to book. £1 to make a tile.

Why did you buy the chickens Dad? A talk on Medieval Markets to Supermarkets: Thursday 24 July, 11am start. How did we shop in medieval times and how have things changed (or have they)? This talk looks at the development of how we shopped, from medieval markets via the corner shop through to supermarkets and hypermarkets. Using images from Sandwell Archives we can see these markets and hopefully bring back memories. Free entry, book your place via Ticketsource or ring site on 0121 588 2985.

Witchcraft in the West Midlands: Thursday 30 July, exhibition open 4pm-6pm, talk starts 6.30pmStep into the hidden history of witchcraft in the West Midlands. From protective marks carved into Black Country doorways to the trials, fears, and folklore that shaped our region, this event explores how belief, suspicion, and everyday magic left their mark on local lives. The venue itself preserves historic witch marks, offering a rare chance to see these protective symbols in situ. From 4pm, visitors are welcome to drop in and enjoy a free miniexhibition, featuring objects, stories, and regional superstitions. Booking is essential for the talk – tickets cost £5.00 per person, book via Ticketsource. Suitable for over 18s.
