Celebrate the summer with a wide variety of school holiday activities across our 4 main sites of Bromwich Hall, Oak House, Haden Hill House and Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery  - with arts, crafts, trails, nature fun, archaeology, performances, Punch and Judy and much much more!

Lyng Community Fun Day: Sunday 31st July, 11.00-2.00pm
Lyng Community Association Fun Day. Bouncy castle, gift bag tombola, raffle, crafts, entertainment and much more! Free Entry.

Festival of Archaeology: Tuesday 26th July, 11.00-3.00pm 
Make a prehistoric pot to take home, meet historic characters, crafts, trails, house open.
An introduction to archaeology for everyone interested, exploring test pits on the front lawn of Oak House.
Over 3 days Wolverhampton Archaeology will be excavating a small area at the front of the early 17th century house.
Members of the public, including accompanied youngsters, will be encouraged to help dig and sieve the spoil and also follow the artefacts through a washing and identification process. Free Entry.

Archaeology Week: Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th July, 11.00-3.00pm

Teddy Bear's Picnic: Tuesday 9th August, 11.00-3.00pm
Bring your favourite teddy bear to Oak House and have a picnic in our grounds weather permitting. Crafts & trails, tea room and house open. Free Entry

Book Day at Oak House: Tuesday 16th August, 11.00-3.00pm
Come to Oak House dressed as a character from your favourite book. Meet Robin Hood  and have a go at archery. Learn about the ancient legends of the blacksmiths. Crafts and trails, tearoom and house open. Activities from 50p Free Entry.

Soul Heaven- Enjoy our fantastic Northern Soul exhibition by artist Anthony McFarlane with scooters, fashion and other exciting objects and photos on display. Opening from 18th May until the end of 2022. Call for details on 0121 556 0683 Open when museum is open

Commonwealth Crafts and trails: Create your own games. 27 and 28, 3rd and 4th August. 
Create your own foam games torch, make a union jack flag to wave for your favourite athlete, make your own games medals and trophies, star sports rattles.  You can also enjoy our Commonwealth games quiz and trails.  
 

Cool Soul Summer - A summer of activities inspired by our Northern Soul music exhibition. Entry to the museum is free with a small charge for activities

Summer of soul music wall - Throughout the summer you can help us to create a fantastic picture on the wall of our gallery by designing your own vinyl record picture and putting it with others on our wall! 

Design and make a clock - Thursday 11 August. 11:30am and 1:30pm. Book onto this fantastic activity which you will get a piece of wood to decorate which will be the back of your clock and a clock mechanism and you can make a fantastic and unique clock for your bedroom. £5 per child. most suitable for children 9 years and above. Italian Day - Wednesday 17 August 11am-3pm. With other those Vespa's on display we have to celebrate all things Italian with crafts, quizzes, food tasting and more. No need to book just drop in

Pump Bag and badge printing - Thursday 18 August, 11am-3pm. Drop in to the museum and design a pump back with our fabric pens and make a badge to take home. Use our Northern Soul exhibition as inspiration or use your imagination! £3.50 for a bag and badge. Ideal for children 5 years and over

Summer drop in crafts - 24 August 11am-3pm. Drop in to the museum and make some great summery crafts. There will be a number to pick from costing £1-£3. You can also enjoy our trail. 

Pick and mix craft activities - 31 August and 1 September 11am-3pm It is back to school week so enjoy a variety of craft activities, quizzes and trails.

FLOW festival in Bromwich Hall grounds - 3 to 17 August 

Three weeks of fantastic family activities delivered by specialists, artists, natural play experts etc from a shipping container in the grounds of Bromwich Hall. A place for families to get involved, tinker, get creative and have fun! Hosted y Sandwell Museums and Sandwell Libraries. 

FLOW is a festival of bold and imaginative arts and culture made with, by and for Children in Birmingham and Sandwell, produced and curated by The Parakeet for the Birmingham 2022 Festival. FLOW places children at the centre of the action as designers, makers and artists.

The Children’s Creative Studio will be open in August with a free programme for children and families. It will be a place to tinker, to play, to make, to create, a children’s art studio, a huge dressing up box, a play box….a place to play and be creative.

Please note the house and sandpit won't be open every day this activity is on. Our Summer sandpit will be open each day the house is open.

3rd-5th August: Fusion Fashion Camp with Complex Simplicity 11am-3pm | Age: 8-12yrs | Register your place via Sandwell #HAF2022 at www.sandwell.gov.uk
Fusion will blend design inspiration from sport and the commonwealth to celebrate diversity and is part of #HAF2022 (Holidays Activities & Food programme)

Saturday 6th August: Play + Games at Bromwich Hall Museum 11am-3pm | Drop in | All ages. Come and join the friends of Bromwich Hall Museum and Sandwell Museums for a day of games and play to celebrate the commonwealth games, why not bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds. Our FLOW Makerspace will be open for making, crafting and creating your own original games and playthings.

Nature and Natural

Monday 8th August: Nature Play with Ampersand Projects 11am-12 | 12:30-1:30pm | 2-3pm (Session repeated, please arrive early to secure a place) | 3 years+. Come play, build and create in nature at this Forest School inspired session. Children of all ages are invited to hunt for minibeasts, squish mud, build dens and create pictures using natural paints and
brushes. Wear clothes to get messy!

Monday 8th August: Library Fun 11am-12noon | All ages. Jump on the Sandwell Library Bus for Play, Talk, Read. Join us and everyone’s favourite hungry
caterpillar. Stories, crafts and code-a-pillar fun.

Tuesday 9th August: Play with Clay 11am-12 | 12:30-1:30pm | 2-3pm (Session repeated, please arrive early to secure a place) | 3 years+. Come and get your hands dirty, squishing, bashing, rolling and flattening clay, one of Earth's more abundant materials. It's a brilliant and fun way to get creative and make things in 3D form.

Tuesday 9th August: Jump on the Sandwell Library Bus 11am-12noon | All ages Toot, toot goes the bus as we join in with stories, singing and crafts.

WMVS Children in Care Artslink – Arts Festival Saturday 13th August: Creative Studio Arts Festival 11am-3pm | Drop in | All ages.
Young people from Birmingham and Virtual Schools have been led by the expertise of architectural practice Matt + Fiona and local designer-maker Lisa Lucy Gakunga to design our creative studio and gallery as part of FLOW Children's Biennial for Birmingham 2022 Festival. This is your opportunity to come and visit our arts centre shipping container at Bromwich Hall Museum and hear from the children who designed it, and see the space in action. There will be a mix of have-a-go workshops, pop up performances, live music and refreshments.

Monday 15th-Wednesday 17th August: Medieval Makerspace, 11am-3pm every day | Drop in | All ages. A makerspace is a “curiosity space” for kids to build, explore, and invent with a variety of tools and supplies. Our special Medieval Maker Space will explore the weird and wonderful 750 year history of Bromwich Hall Museum, and inspire children to invent, build and make their own medieval inventions, solving the problems of the time, like how do you make hedgehog pie?

Monday 15th August: Library Fun, 11am-12 | All ages. Jump on the Sandwell Library Bus for Play, Talk, Read. Let down your hair with our magical
Rapunzel story time. Then make and create your crafts to take home. Tuesday 16th August: Jump on our Sandwell Library Bus for Story Time 11am-12 | All ages Behold all you would be knights, join us for Medieval tales of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks. Then make your very own shield to carry on your adventures.

A day at the seaside: Monday 22 August, 11am-3pm. As the summer draws to a close join us and enjoy Punch and Judy shows, our sandpit area, crafts and trails. No need to book, free entry.

Celebrate the Commonwealth Games: 25 July – 5 August

Queen’s Baton Relay. Mon 25 July, 11am – 2pm, The Queen’s Baton will stop at Sandwell’s historic Haden Hill House. Untold Stories: we want to hear your everyday stories about Haden Hill Park as part of it's 100th anniversary. Did you do your courting in the park, enjoy family picnics or bunk off school to read in the park. Let us know. Also send us your pictures of the park or you enjoying it over the last 100 years. Please send to HadenHill_House@sandwell.gov.uk with your stories and pics stating you are happy for us to use these for the purpose of the display and project. 

Inspired by Haden Hill House and Park: For heritage open days in September we want to showcase your local talents! We want to see you pieces of arts and crafts inspired by Haden Hill Park as it celebrates its 100th birthday. It could be art, crafts, knitting, photos, sculpture, paintings etc. Get in touch at HadenHill_House@sandwell.gov.uk and let us know what you have for the display. 

Design and Make your own flag. Wed 27 July, 11am & 2pm. Be inspired by your family history and where you live to design and make a flag to commemorate the Commonwealth Games. Celebrate the 1920s: 11 August – 19 August 

Beside the Seaside and on the Pier. Thu 11 Aug, Fri 12 Aug, 10am - 5pm, (last admissions 30 mins before closing). Come along to a 1920s ‘seaside’ at Haden Hill House museum and watch a Punch and Judy show (Thu 11 Aug,) join in with some music (Fri 12 Aug) or make a post card (Thu & Fri). 

Punch and Judy with Ron Popple. Thu 11 August, 11am – 3pm. Shows throughout the day (outside, weather permitting). Free entrance to the museum and Punch and Judy shows.
Music with Andy. Fri 12 August, 11am – 3pm. Timed sessions throughout the day with limited spaces, please be aware you might need to wait if a session is full. Free entrance to the museum and music sessions.

Discover Tutankhamun. Thu 18 Aug, Fri 19 Aug, , 11am - 3pm (Museum open 10am - 5pm, last admissions 30 mins before closing). The tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922,  join in with quizzes and trails around the museum or make a craft inspired by Egyptian artefacts. Free entrance to the museum, small cost for crafts.

Celebrate Haden Hill Park: 24 August – 2 September  

Be Curious and Creative This Summer. Wed 24 Aug, 10.30am-11,30am & 1.30pm-2.30pm. 'Be Curious and Creative' is Haden Hill House Museum's Early Years Programme. This Summer session is designed for 2-3 year olds and their parents/carers. You will explore the textures, sights and scents of the season and share stories and songs. Nature Trail and Bug Hunt, inside and out. Thu 25 Aug, Fri 26 Aug, , 11am - 3pm (Museum open 10am - 5pm, last admissions 30 mins before closing). Quizzes, trails and drop in crafts in the museum. Free entrance to the museum, small cost for crafts.  Hire some bug hunting equipment and discover the minibeasts, trees and flowers in the park. £5 deposit (returnable) for hire of equipment.

Birds, Butterflies and Bugs. Thu 1 Sep, Fri 2 Sep, 11am - 3pm (Museum open 10am - 5pm, last admissions 30 mins before closing). Make a bird, mini bird house, butterfly or bug. Free entrance to the museum, small cost for crafts.
             
GoPlay will be in Haden Hill Park  every Friday 29 July—26 August 10.30am—3.30pm, providing drop games and sports activities.

Our Celebration Arch wooden emblems will also be available throughout the summer.
