Autumnal Antics and Spooky Fun at Sandwell Museums
Step into autumn with Sandwell Museums, where there’s something for everyone to enjoy whether you want to revel in the season or enjoy some creepy fun!
Young explorers can dive into storytelling, messy science fun, and autumn crafts, then get ready for pumpkin carving, a thrilling Halloween disco, and plenty more spooky surprises and autumnal activities.
Grown-ups won’t miss out either – experience gothic chills with Don’t Go into the Cellar theatre, settle in for a horror movie night, or take part in fascinating local history talks, tours, and even a medieval painting workshop.
We have nature activities too to celebrate the season including a fungal foray at Oak House on 2nd November.

Bromwich Hall Museum
West Bromwich in Old Photographs: Thursday 2 October, 11:30am start. Join Sandwell Archives Outreach Officer Maureen Waldron as she takes a nostalgic tour around West Bromwich looking at old photos from Sandwell Archives collection. Medieval paint workshop: Saturday 18 October, 10am – 3pm. Join our medieval paint expert for a costumed talk and hands-on workshop. Make your own paints from historic pigments and take them home in beautiful shell holders. £10 per person, which includes one free hot drink. Curse of the Crimson Circle: Monday 27 October, sessions at 11am and 2pm (lasting two hours). Since the late 1700s, widowed women of means were invited to retreat to the Manor House—a sanctuary for grief, reflection, and sisterhood. Bound by shared loss and cloaked in crimson mourning attire, they formed a secretive society known only as ‘The Crimson Circle.’ But as the years pass, one by one, the women start to vanish. Are you and your family prepared to put your detective skills to the test and uncover the fate of the women from the Crimson Circle? Suitable for children 7 and above, children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets cost £3.50 per child and 50p per adult, booking essential via Ticketsource.
Pumpkin Carving: Tuesday 28 October, sessions at 10am, 11:30am and 1pm. Tickets cost £4.00 per pumpkin. Booking essential via Ticketsource. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Halloween Disco: Wednesday 29 October, 6pm – 7.30pm. Wear your favourite costume and dance the night away to our spooktastic tunes! Enjoy the tuck shop and tombola. Tickets cost £2.00 per child and 50p per accompanying adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable for children under 13. Haden Hill House Museum and Old Hall
Valuation Day: Wednesday 1 October, 11am-2pm
Experts from Fieldings Auctioneers of Stourbridge (as seen on BBC One’s Antique Roads Trip) will be here offering advice and valuations. £5 for 3 small -medium items (those which can be carried in large shopping bag)

Dead of Night- A Don’t Go into The Cellar performance: Tuesday 21 Oct - 7pm
A man has a recurring dream that sees him encountering the same group of strangers in a remote house. Each of them relates a supernatural experience they have had, little realising what dreadful connection they have to the unexpected visitor. This original anthology of classic chillers is based on the 1945 British film of the same title. Adapted from ghost stories penned by E F Benson and others, this one-man stage show stars Jonathan Goodwin. £14 via ticketsource
Father of Faces - The Toy Maker: Thursday 30 October, 6:30pm
“In the shadowed halls of Haden Hill, a reclusive toy maker once crafted dolls so lifelike they seemed to breathe—until children began to vanish. Come along for autumnal fun around the house, with magician Ron Popple, live music, and seasonal trails. Feeling brave? Then venture into the Old Hall for slightly spookier goings-on!

From Workhouse to Hospital: A brief history of healthcare in Sandwell.
Thursday 9 October 11.30am. What happened when you were ill before the NHS? This talk takes you from the workhouse at West Bromwich where it all began, through to present day, looking at healthcare provision and how it developed in Sandwell.
